Powerwall can detect an outage, disconnect from the grid, and automatically restore power to your home in a fraction of a second. You will not even notice that the power went out. Your lights and appliances will continue to run without interruption. If you have solar and Powerwall, then solar energy will continue to power your home and recharge Powerwall. Without Powerwall, solar will shut down during an outage.
Tesla has started to take orders for their 3rd generation of Powerwall, Powerwall 3 in the US and we are expecting in the UK late 2024.

The Tesla Powerwall is a rechargeable home battery system designed to maximise your home’s energy independence from the grid. A Powerwall can work with or without solar PV. The biggest difference with the Powerwall 3 compared to the Powerwall 2 is a higher power output of 11.5KW continuous and an integrated solar inverter.
The higher power output of 11.5KW which is nearly a 20% increase of power output compared to Powerwall 2 enables powering of high load items. Items with high energy demand, such as electric vehicle chargers, electric showers, and heat pumps enable you to optimise the utilisation of stored energy, enhancing your independence from the grid. Solar and battery power outputs may be constrained by National Grid limitations, which differs across difference grid connections. The distinctive flexibility of Powerwall 3 allows you to adjust the power output, ensuring your can maximise your grid connection’s allocated power.
The Powerwall 3 provides flexibility to charge during daylight hours and depend on stored battery power at night, providing a comprehensive 24-hour solution for situations when the sun sets and the grid is without power.
